The Other Half
This is the pool and restaurant bar area, 6th floor, the Fairmont Hotel, on Copacabana front along near the Ipanema end. We popped in to check it out for guests as we sometimes get asked where to go for a drink with a view. We'll definitely recommend this place - we were very impressed!
We parted with our own pennies though across the road in one of the beach bars and enjoyed some live bossa nova for an hour or so. And this is where we saw Carlos, a houseless person, who was dancing his heart out on the beach in front of us, not bothering anyone, not asking for anything. I popped down to give him something to help make his day a bit easier and had a wee chat with him - Bb blipped us, although we're way in the distance!
We started the day as we usually do on Wednesdays here in Rio, with a wander round our local food market up the road. Then a bit more shopping to replace two folding chairs for the studio here. Both of the backs were cracked slightly, but the one that I use split completely today while I was using it - no jokes necessary, Bb has already done that ;-) Where's the blue and yellow emporium when you need it? No equivalent here and our original chairs came from there, well wrapped up and checked in on our plane 11 years ago with another piece of furniture!
We had dinner in Gran Cru, a little restaurant along the road on Barato Ribeiro. For our record, I had salmon with creamy spinach and Bb had risotto - both very good.
