Niraweka

The ancestor who is said to have brought the skill of flax-weaving to the Maori. She stands with several other ancestral and guardian deities/spirits on the approach to the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute, situated at theTe Puia attraction, Whakarewarewa Valley, on the edge of Rotorua.
Today I have seen students, at the various schools of carving, making some exquisite stuff.
Then there are the weavers, both young and more "experienced" (extra). Beautiful!
