Taylor's Boat Yard
This is Taylor's Boat Yard which, according to the information board, is the only traditional boat yard of its kind left in Great Britain today. It does seem rather surprising but I suppose the phrase "of its kind" act as a caveat.
The complex of building and maintenance buildings were originally constructed for the Shropshire Union Railways and Canal Company which owned the canal and operated a fleet of boats.
In 1921 the company pulled out of carrying and had no need for carrying and it was taken over by J H Taylor until they ceased trading in the 1970s although it still carries their name.
It is still a working boatyard operated by J P Marine who have also restored some of the Grade II listed site.
