Canal Quarter

These days it seems like no self-respecting city wants to be without a quarter or two. Admittedly, Manchester's Northern Quarter has been there since the 1990s but Liverpool's Georgian Quarter seems a fairly recent conceit and now Lancaster appears to have a Canal Quarter.

A quick Google appears to show that this area was previously known as the Canal Corridor, which is a little bewildering as it's a (very rough) square with a section of the canal running down one side. Maybe I've got that wrong :-/

Either way, it would also appear that the Canal Quarter Action Group has been victorious in getting the council to develop the area in cooperation with the community rather than letting a development company call the shots. Good for them!

All this is far more interesting than the reason I was in Lancaster, today, which was to visit the bank with a view to sorting out a mortgage for the new house. In this respect, at least, life would be a lot simpler if I had a regular job and only had to provide my last three payslips for scrutiny!
