EveryDay Ideas 10 - The Long Game

We had a lovely afternoon stroll through the grounds and gardens of Wallington Hall in Northumberland. The gardens are beautifully maintained and spectacular in the summer when in full bloom.

The idea for today?  Why have we lost that Victorian ethic of designing grounds, gardens and parks for the long term future. We used to think hundreds of years ahead - about leaving legacies for future generations - and their enjoyment. Just think how long a giant redwood tree takes to grow and the courage it takes to invest in it and plant it - knowing that you will not see it in your lifetime in its fully grown glory.

So - Let's play the long game more. Think a hundred years in the future and plan for it now. It is not for us it is for future generations. Climate change is just one very critical example.
