Into the woods

A good start to the new year, -23C. As long as we kept moving it wasn't uncomfortable and it got warmer as the day went on and as we went uphill. It was quite bright but we didn't see the sun, though there were some nice golden skies mid-morning.
Today's route took us across the river and along to the very edge of the Russian/Finnish border zone, the actual border was about 1km away. (see 2nd extra, they didn't load in the right order). Then out of the trees and up Saunavarra where a Siberian Jay came to share our lunch and we had 360 panoramic views over the forests and to Russia (3rd extra).
Returning was mostly the same route and we all went at our own speeds and were back in time for a sauna. I didn't go and roll in the snow this time, going outside to the changing room seemed enough cold!
After dinner we made a fire by the shelter and kept warm as the snow came down (1st extra)
