Still Waiting

I first met Robert a year ago and at that time he'd been living on the street for about a month.  Still waiting for his application for subsidized housing to be approved, he told me once again that he's fortunate for his little corner bench and nearby covered stoop.  He's thrilled every time I stop by for a chat.  I asked about the snow that's expceted to arrive next week and he said he'd be okay with his coat and blankets.  

Robert worked for 40 years as a line cook in various restuarants.  Despite his years of hard work he can't afford the cost associated with traditional rental properties, so he continues to wait for subsidized housing.  A better process to assist people like Robert - it doesn't seem like too much to ask for in a country like ours...
