The Carrick Stone

Went a short walk today once the rain stopped. The Carrick Stone is believed to be a Roman Altar used by the Romans who constructed the Antonine wall. It is also believed to have been a command post and rallying point for the troops of Robert the Bruce, who, as the Earl of Carrick, gave the stone its name. The hole in the stone is where the Bruce is said to have planted his standard shortly before the Battle of Bannockburn.
