A fairy in my garden
Same place, same time...this little fairy has visited the garden for the past few days. It is a female Red-winged Fairywren (Malurus elegans) and I managed to identify it because of it's partner which displays much more distinguishing markings and colour. I hope to be able to get a photo of him in the next few days ... he is beautiful with an iridescent silvery-blue crown, ear coverts and upper back, red shoulders, The male and female are a monogamous pair, and if you spot one of them then the other is bound to be in the near vicinity. I'm not sure how to get better photos of these little birds. I have trouble getting close enough to them to be able to get a sharp focus...it's probably my trembling hands that are the problem. Can't use a tripod as they flit around far to quickly.
Apart from traipsing around the garden with the camera, I spent a good part of the day helping my son and daughter-in-law's move to their new home. We were blessed with perfect weather for this undertaking thank goodness, and managed to put in several hours of packing and unpacking the car. The job will be finished tomorrow and Peter, Claire and Max will have their first sleep there unless the new baby decides to arrive a few days early (very strong possibility with all the exercise Claire has done today) I returned home quite stiff and in pain...but a rest with my feet up and I was soon back outside with the camera trying to get another elusive bird pic.
Tomorrow...more of the same.
