First day of snow

The first day of snow and hopefully the last day it snows!

This is the view through the kitchen window. The sparrows, chaffinches, robin and a fieldfare looking for shelter and food. The fieldfare is the large bird on the right and there are several more in the crabapple tree above.

No walking for me although I did gingerly venture out into the garden to fill up the bird feeder with peanuts and scatter some food on the ground. The whole country is in turmoil although this time the main arteries, the motorways, are generally open as the gritters were well prepared this time and worked through the night. Many of the airports were closed first thing and over a hundred schools in Somerset were shut. The postman delivered the letters but had to walk down our lane leaving his van at the top. No newspapers at the village shop!
