Cake
La Galette des Rois is a frangipane tart and it celebrates Epiphany. Traditionally, the youngest person at the table cuts the cake into slices (yup more French health and safety, Gawd bless 'em) and then disappears under the table so they can't influence who picks which slice. Hidden in the tart is a feve, a trinket, which symbolises the Baby Jesus. The lucky person who finds it in their slice wins certain privileges and, hopefully, avoids breaking a tooth.
The enterprising baker in Roujan chose tiny village signs of the surrounding villages as their feves this year. It could have been Margon, Neffies, Magalas, Caux or Gabian hiding in the pie, but we, lucky us, got Roujan. Isn't it cute?
The tart also comes with a paper crown for the winner and, better yet, it tastes yummy.
