Beavering away
Since 26 September 2019, the beavers have taken up their work again of damaging two very large trees to the extent that with a good storm they may just topple this year. They will be continuing the job until the summer and hope the autumn storms do the rest.
As we continued downstream, I saw some ripples in the water which must have been one of them and took a closer look at the point where their dam is. Luna wasn't interested and went mouse hunting on the fields. Just as I was taking a video of the iced up twigs on the dam & the surrounding area where the beavers had cleared all the smaller trees, heard barking and MrB with two friends came by with guns.
He sent on his friends and dog Donna (Luna & Donna don't get on!) and we had a pleasant chat. First for ages not done through a vehicle window as we passed one another somewhere.
It is the end of the hunting season on Wednesday so they had got together for a "social" meeting and at dusk a quick stroll to see if there may be a duck or two to be had. MrB & his local colleagues have for years been doing a lot to try and increase the local duck population by building nests including one on our property which didn't seem to have the desired effect, however, we do normally have at least one pair every spring & summer paddling in our stream.
I was out & about for an hour or so but didn't hear a single shot so assume they simply continued the social part of their day.
