Slipper Orchid
Brendan, not my mate the storm, made the day so horrible I never set foot outside the house all day. Very heavy rain and lashing winds did not make going out at all enticing.
Fortunately I hadn't blipped my purchase from the first day of the Orchid Weekend, so that was the obvious subject. This beauty (OK I am biased) is Paphiopedilum maudiae. Slipper Orchids come from a number of genuses. (should that be genii?) They also range from ones capable of withstanding temperatures down to -20°C. Maudiae however is happiest in a warm room where the nighttime temperature doesn't fall below 15°C
