Twentieth Day of Knut
So, today is the Twentieth Day of Knut, which is traditionally the day in Sweden to take down and throw out the Christmas tree. Which is why we left our tree up until now. There is supposed to be a party with singing and dancing around the tree and treats being eaten, a “julgransplundring”. Mum went to those went she was little, she says.
Why we miss out on a party with treats is a mystery to me. We did sing one song, “The Fox is walking across the ice”, and tried to dance to it with the appropriate movements. Then packed away the ornaments and put the tree in its box. Then we did have coffee and treats, but it wasn’t exactly a party. Next year, mum?
Bye tree, thank you for this Christmas!
