2020 year of the nurse & midwife
Attended an event at work today celebrating the launch of the year of the nurse & midwife. There was refreshments laid on to start, then some speakers including the chief nurse and our chair of governors. The history of nursing and midwifery was reviewed from tales of ‘midwives’ being burned at the stake, to Florence Nightingale, the development of the NHS and the expanding and diverse roles that nurses play today.
Then some of the newer recruits (including lovely member of our team) spoke about what they envisage the future to be and what needs to be in place for them to move forward.
At the end the lamp which is to be the symbol of the year was presented to the cardiac AMU and CTCCU, the lamp will be moved on shortly to travel around the hospital.
