Mont Blanc
Mr C underestimated the time it would take us to get over to Les Menuires for lunch at the Skilt with Roger. Then I found a tooth in the zip of my 15 year old Paramo walking trousers (I’ve never bought proper ski clothes) had broken, and trying to ‘help’ he yanked the zip end right off, resulting in a massive expanse if bare thigh that 2 safety pins would not fix. This wardrobe malfunction lost more time as I had to go back to get into long johns and waterproof walking trousers.
All the rushing resulted in a bad ski day on a blue I’ve done many times, with rubbish turns and me being slow and nervous. Then the long tracks I always enjoy were fast which was nice but my legs ached. So by the time we got over we only had time for lunch of very good French Onion Soup before Roger reminded us we’d better be heading back in order to catch the lifts before they shut. It was lovely to see him and he invited us to their house in Mallorca in the summer, or their apartment out here, but all this depends on how my foot is after the op as we all like to walk together. (We were going to have stayed there tonight but Carol had to fly home to help her dad whose partner had recently died).
We made it to the lifts but it took over 2 hours to get back and the light had gone. So not much skiing but the weather might hold tomorrow and we’ll do more, closer to home.
It’s all a learning experience but I’m very disappointed with my efforts today. Mr C thinks I’m struggling with my broken ankle which is kind of him, as more likely I’m being a nervous wimp.
