Firedrill

We organized a fire drill with a little bit different scenario this time. I wanted to show how difficult it is to reach a victim with zero visibility. When the Engine room is on fire you can count on it that the visibility will be reduced to nil after a minute. It took our blindfolded firefighting team 7 minutes to cover only 20 meters of engine room. The leading person in the front was the second engineer, so he knows this engine room very well. No hose to carry, no real fire, no slippery floors covered with oil and still 7 minutes to reach the victim. You have to go back also with a person to carry. Pretty hopeless situation if this was for real. Lesson learned is that your chances are very limited to survive this in a real serious Engine Room fire.
