In The 'Wood

By Fayzeeday

Pan Ants

The local ants have been dated in situ through the study of the size of their colonies to over a thousand years, coincidently (or not) matching the first written records of the oak woods themselves. They live through out the 'Wood but are most easy to see in this giant ant complex in open ground near Coppice Wood, where no lawn mowers have continually flattened their nests (not that they appear at all deterred by gardeners). During the hottest few days of the summer they swarm, not a day to be caught sunbathing.

First attempt at panoramic stitching, could have done with more contrast on the ant hills I'll retake this photograph in later Spring or early Summer when the light conditions are better.
