Fratry
I walked through the Cathedral grounds today, via a diverted path around the building work that is going on. I blipped this a few months ago. A lot has happened since and it is looking rather good (behind the funny camouflaged fence!)
This is the Fratry being brought back to life. In the Middle Ages the Fratry was the dining hall of the Cathedral Priory. Over the years the building has been used for all sorts of things and it is now being turned into a 'cultural hub' - a space for events, education and meetings. The arched bit seen here is an additional pavilion which will be a café. The stone being used is local red sandstone, quarried on the outskirts of Dumfries.
A just about okay morning and then a miserable afternoon with more wind, more rain and more grey.
