Hope it's not dangerous

This fungus is growing out of the side of a log of wood on which I put a plant pot in summer.  the log has been there for two years and has not previously shown any sign of fungus.  Perhaps it's the really wet weather we've had that has produced it.  I'm not sure if I should get rid of it or leave it be.
