natural history museum

The Natural History Museum in London is in such a beautiful building but I have to say that apart from the building itself, and Darwin's thoughtful gaze looking down the stairs - first time a statue's eyes have followed me round a room (extra), I found the experience disappointing.  Fairly tired exhibits, very tatty surroundings, clearly old displays (poor stuffed ex-panda Chi Chi sits in a glass case with a map which still had the USSR on it!
Displays of stuffed birds with  no labelling, displays of rocks with no labelling, shelved too high to see properly.  Looks unloved and cash strapped.  Such a shame.
Compared to the vibrant, imaginative and ever changing displays at the Scottish National Museum in Chamber St, Edinburgh the contrast is very stark indeed.
One of the benefits of travel is, of course, that you realise how good we have it at home :-))
