Hiking
A really challenging walk but a great day with our local guide Estefania and her friend Gustavo. We started from Cerro Cathedral village ( a ski resort in winter) and headed up to Frey refuge. We past Lake Gutierrez and started to climb.. it was a real mix of sandy paths, through the forests and rock scrambling ( 4 hours) to reach the hanging lake Frey surrounded by the Amphitheatre range, some with snow on them still as you can see. Lunch and a paddle never felt so good.
Clearly the Argentinians are all in the know as they hike in lycra and trainers carrying their crocs or flip flops, then strip off to their bikinis and trunks when they get there, and camp too. Never have I been overtaken by so many young healthy people carrying huge back packs! Then 4 hours back down which was sometimes tough. But our guide told us we had great dispositions and she was proud of us getting there( like guiding her parents no doubt!)
