Beach Day!
Finally the weather was calm and sunny enough to go to a beach. Volcanic sand, gorgeous sea and warengs (Balinese diners) where we ate noodles and fish. Stopped at a traditional Balinese village on the way back, inhabited by a separate tribe who weren’t linked in until the 1970s. Despite long houses running down the centre it was brick built and thatched. Like a kind of hot Sussex. Fleeced for a rare piece of double Ikat (tourist tax) which we didn’t love but the methodology was so complex as to be fascinating. Everywhere were day glo dyed cockerels used for cockfighting in the temples. I’m sure you’d rather see pics of them than my kindle on the beach!
