Welcome to Ely
Some friends came to visit us in Ely for a day out. We walked along the river to Rowsell Pits, a nature reserve, then went to the Drayman’s Son at the bottom of the hill.
After a while, a troupe of Molly dancers came in, and the musicians started playing. They were in blackface, which Molly and Morris dancers claim was traditionally a disguise, and nothing to do with racist minstrel shows.
