Bath time for Taya

Taya is our one year old Herman tortoise and she has been with us for about 6 weeks now. She is a delight.

She must be bathed every other day and she absolutely loves her time in the water. Why, you may ask, does she need to be bathed? Well tortoises need to be hydrated and because of living in an unnatural habitat (her cage) a bath enables her to absorb water, hence ensuring she is hydrated.

We use a washing up bowl and tepid water and it is usually around 10-20 minutes water time. My son always does the duty and gives him some bonding time with her!
