Whakarewarewa
An absolutely fascinating morning at this site which is both a Maori village and a geothermal site. The tribe got hot water for cooking and bathing (there’s a stream for drinking water) and now many of them make a living from tourism.
Cook your meal in a box over a steam vent and do the veg in a bag thrown in a hot pool. Magic.
In the afternoon we came back to the hotel and had a swim in the very cold pool. And this evening we took a dining cruise on the paddle steamer on Lake Rotarua. All great fun.
