A Tune
One of the songbook of my very early life (the one immediately after Old McDonald) picked up in grandparents house form my aunts and uncles was The Animals - House of the Rising Sun, I had no idea at the time what this house might be, and as for much of the rest of my life sang along with the tune as it was singable.
What else I didn't know at the time was this was likely the first folk goes electric track ever in public awareness. Many had sung it before, at least for 100 years, sometimes the son was a daughter.
Bob Dylan had done a folky version on his first ever album, perhaps influenced by Woodie Guthrie 40 years earlier. Bob on hearing this Animals version apparently said something like "that's it I'm going electric" - predating his famous transition and the cry of Judas from the audience.
The clash of styles and approaches in many things brings something fresh and new, but so often difficult to receive at first.
Dare we live with that dissonance long enough to create something new?
