North Castle Gully
First winter climb of 2013. The conditions on very good across most of
the highlands, Ben Nevis was really busy today. There were over 40
cars in the car park as we set off up the path. With a steady
procession heading up to the high climbs we spied that the two Castle
gullys both looked in condition. These climbs are normally quite
averlache prone, but given the lack of snow resently we thought they'd
be pretty safe. So we took the opportunity and headed up North Castle
Gully, which was fine apart from one short section that was completely
clear of snow and ice leaving some pretty hard mixed climbing. Topped
out as the sun was setting so had a long plod out in the dark.
Great day.
