Fat Rascals
Before you say anything - the fat rascals in this picture are bottom right and somewhat a speciality of this establishment - Betty's and are indeed a bun called a Yorkshire Fat Rascal and I'm regretting not buying one as I write this up.
Today I'm adding to my One Street series The Grove.
Betty's is Yorkshire enough to be included in the main images that fronted the Tour de France in Yorkshire 2014 publicity - I think Fat Rascals are probably the perfect fuel for the riders, they get to travel close to 5 of the 6 outlets.
Betty's is posh Yorkshire at posh Yorkshire prices, the staff all immaculate and polite and dressed up a bit edwardian. I used know an old chap, all ex RAF and handlebar moustache, he told the tale of his mothers clocks. She had 4 clocks on the mantlepiece each with different times on them. One was the Ilkley Clock, another the York Clock, the others Harrogate and Northallerton. If she had an appointment for a Betty's tea with a friend in Harrogate at say 3 o'clock she would set off when the Harrogate clock turned 3, someone had gone to a lot of trouble to set them all so she didn't have to work it out.
Todays photo is also very Yorkshire - two middle aged women out shopping, checking the goods through the window, with one of the husbands off centre, patient and only there to drive the car and carry the bags. All that seems to have changed over recent years is the flat cap has been changed for a beanie.
