Bridge over the Wray Brook
The Wray Brook runs through the fields in front of out base on Dartmoor. They are owned by Wray Barton which stands on the site of the old Manor House which was mentioned in the Doomsday Book in 1249. When they are not being used to house stock we are able to walk Jinxy there.
Running off the road there is an ancient right of way which crosses the brook by means of this old bridge then into an old sunken lane, both of which appear to be very old.
Its amazing that this bridge can still carry heavy agricultural tractors and machinery the likes of which would not have been imagined when it was built.
Our worries about the snow and ice were unfounded and the journey here yesterday was without incidents. The snow laying in the fields is fast disappearing and the roads are clear. We went up onto the moor today and again the snow was very thin on the ground but there were hundreds of children sledging on the slopes. In fact there were so many car parked on the roadside it was difficult to get past in places. The weather was overcast and it was very cold and not photographic weather. Mrs M has just shouted up that its snowing at the moment!
so lets see what tomorrow brings.
Jinxy insisted in being in the picture!!!!
