Hinckley Point
After we'd dropped Sophie at school and had our regular Friday breakfast out, we headed for Kilve and walked along the coast path towards Hinckley Point, where they are building, at enormous cost, a third nuclear power station. The original Magnox station is already decommissioned so this one will replace it, with an expected working life of just 60 years : in the meantime, the building of it is providing jobs for 25000 people, many of them housed in temporary accommodation in Bridgwater, Minehead and other local towns, bringing a welcome boost to the local economy.
In the blip you an see, at one end, the jetty which eventually wil allow materials to be shipped in rather than by road which is currently causing a lot of heavy traffic in the local area, and at the other the world's largest crane, which is doing a lot of theheavy lifting.
We walked for about two hours again and saw less than a handful of people in that time.
