Mother Teasel

I headed into Guildford today for a new camera case, and had a wander along the Wey Navigations in the city centre.

The canel at Millmead Lock was looking very sorry for itself. The navigations through the lock have been drained following flooding in November which caused a footbridge linking the lock to the weir to collapse (extra). It looks like plans are well in hand to fix though.

I found this teasel next to one of the other foot bridges, and was intrigued by the seedlings growing out of the seedhead. Apparently this is caused by rainy weather (!!) where some seeds may germinate when still in the seedhead (vivipary).  The seedlings will eventually drop and are still viable in suitable conditions.
