Village halls week
Did you know it's "village halls week" this week in England? and today was "village halls open day", a celebration of all things village hall. We walked down to ours to view the interesting local history exhibition and purchased a book about the history of one of the local farm families, the Lee family were early advocates of the cold storage of fruit. Our village "Crockenhill" was built around 18th century fruit farms. The village hall was built in 1958 and my photo is of the site nearby that was used for processing fruit.
Our house is on part of what used to be the Lullingstone estate owned by the Hart-Dyke family (Tom Hart-Dyke and Miranda Hart are the famous ones nowadays), our house was a farm workers cottage and was subsequently owned by the Kemptown brewery - our title deeds still state we cannot brew alcohol for public sale!, sorry :-D
Part of the reason why Kent is known as the garden of England.
