For luck
This is a Billiken, carved by Eskimos from walrus ivory and dating back about 40 years. It was a gift, a small reminder of my childhood in Alaska. And, today, it is serving as an emergency Blip because I never managed to get outside in the pouring rain.
Billikens first appeared in Alaska’s culture around 1905 and are considered a good luck charm. Although they can be carved from many mediums, ancient walrus ivory is a favorite. The lore is that if you rub his tummy you’ll have good luck. Or at least you’ll give others a good laugh.
Torrential rains for most of the day which meant I finally got a start on pulling together information for our taxes. Always a disagreeable chore, but it had to be done. Took a break to hit the gym and to watch some of the impeachment hearings. The defense team has made a good start, although I doubt that any of this will really affect the outcome.
Had a great catch up on the phone with bestie Peggy. It was great to talk with her, as always.
And not much else to report...
