Pygmy Kingfisher #12
Today we went on the only "ship's tour" we have booked, and it was actually much better than I expected it to be. It was a trip to the mangroves and a boat tour around them. There were only six on each small craft, and we were the first boat out so probably saw more than the other 4 boats. But we were very quiet, which is more than can be said for the one behind us who we had to keep telling to shush if they wanted to see anything! No wonder they didn't see much.
We saw three different types of kingfisher - pygmy, green and ringed - the main is the pygmy - and they really are tiny. We also saw six different types of heron - tiger heron was my favourite which you can see in extras. And there were plenty of mangrove swallows swooping around, but one very kindly stopped on a post for me to take it's portrait.
