Hammerfest

Last night we missed several stops as the captain decided to sail ahead of the storm to a sheltered port. His plan worked, but the passengers wanting to snowmobile between ports couldn’t.

It was pretty rough (but we’d put our bits and pieces away in cupboards etc so no harm done.)

Our two hour stop was in Hammerfest, a town with interesting history and lots going on, even on a a Sunday.

We went to the church and there was a christening about to start. Guests in traditional Norwegian dress, and wonderfully well behaved children.

When a similar thing happened in Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim in August a few years ago, we were caught up in the celebration. Norwegian people are so welcoming and hospitable. This morning there was only time for good wishes, and a quick photo.

We’re optimistic of a clear sky this evening - the Aurora would be a real bonus.

Extra: Hammerfest - snow, low temperatures, more snow, and blue skies.
