The Deers of Nara
Took the train from Kyoto to Nara to see the huge Buddha in one of the worlds largest wooden buildings - we were so lucky we are well out of tourist season so we were able to enjoy the temple without thousands of others and could walk around in relative peace, The Buddha was mightily impressive although we didn’t try to squeeze through the hole in the wooden pillar, think it brings you luck but I didn’t fancy getting stuck and having to be pulled ungracefully out.
I couldn’t get over the deers they were everywhere as they are consider sacred protectors although I was slightly concerned and wanted to get access to Lyme disease figures for the area! You could buy treats to feed them but given the aforementioned I wasn’t taking any risks. The deers I don’t think were that friendly either given the blip.
On the stone paths around the complex old stone lanterns lined the way covered by a beautiful green moss, they again evoked a mystical, supernatural feel. Only allowed one blip though.....
