Kawarau Gorge
The emerald waters of the Kawarau River flow through 25km of the Kawarau Gorge, an area of great natural beauty and the scene of gold mining activities in the 1860s.
This is the scene just downstream from Roaring Meg, a small hydro electricity station and one of New Zealand's earliest, commissioned in 1936.
Images of the hydro station are in extras.
