Rummy

One of our most famous residents, amongst others. (Still waiting for a statue of Jean Alexander)

Red rum. 3 times winner of the worlds most famous steeplechase, The Grand national in 1973, 1974 and 1977. Stabled and trained locally and a beautiful boy who brought a lot of smiles and joy.
Seeing him running full pelt on the beach during his excercise sessions was amazing. Always a group of local kids hanging around to give him his favourite treat of polo mints on his return to the stables in Birkdale.

The statue was sculpted by Lady Annette Yarrow and funded by the public. His ashes are buried next to the winners post at Aintree. A fitting tribute to a great horse.
