Almshouses
Running an errand for my father in Henley-on- Thames, a town I'm not overly familiar with, I came across this narrow lane known as Church Avenue. One side is lined with 14 identical almshouses. Ten endowed by Mr Humphrey Newberry in 1664 and four by Mrs Anne Messenger in 1669. They were rebuilt in 1846. Such sturdy little homes, they look ideal for their purpose.
