Lake Paringa #2
Wonderful, wet West Coast. Rained on and off all night long so it was no surprise to find the lake shrouded in misty clouds when the DoC ranger came knocking at my door a little before 7.00am! We had a quick discussion and then I headed down to the lake to see what I could capture. The whole lake had a beautiful, eerie feel to it and the mist was in constant motion so I was surprised that the reflection was so clear. Lake Paringa is a U shaped lake and this promontary is the land that divides the north arm from the south. It's an incredible area - deep into South Westaland National Park, thick, lush native forest, pristine lakes and enough sandflies to sink a battleship. And those sandflies sure do seem to love a warm, damp environment.
After a few hours watching the lake's moods change, I headed off and tootled my way to Haast (a whole 50-odd kms). By the time I arrived (mid-afternoon) the sun was out and it was rather warm. Got stuck in to a few domestic jobs - two loads of washing, hung out in sunshine with a warm wind to dry everything, a luxurious long and refreshing shower and hair wash and a relaxing evening with all the doors and windows open. Looking forward to a good night's sleep tonight before leaving the West Coast - for the time being - and heading over the hills.
