"If Tom Girtin had lived ......

...... I should have starved" JMW Turner.
Every time I pass this view I think of Thomas Girtin's 'White House at Chelsea'. The Ouse is not the Thames, Downham is nowhere near Chelsea. and there's no windmill there, although there is one in the other direction at Denver. Yet there is something about the way the house sits low in the landscape and glows that always catches the eye.
Girtin painted White House when he was about 25 yrs old and died when he was 27 ( another for the 27 club next to Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison etc)
I've popped in a link to an art blog about Girtin if anyone is interested

Otherwise you'll just have to put up with PeteW's 'White House Near Downham ;-)
