Poaka (Pied Stilt)

Out on the estuary tonight. Pied stilt (Himantopus himantopus), Maori name, Poaka. Such delicate wee things - always put me in mind of a gangly teenager with those long knock kneed legs.

I took a much better photo of godwits - but there are not yet any stilts on the BlipBigYear list so a stilt it is for today.

Well the holiday is over. I put Teacherlady on a plane back to Australia tonight. I'll stick around Christchurch until Tuesday to make sure Andrea69 gets on her plane to Britain and the it's back to work for me.
