Jazz en Velay
Friday was as usual. Had my one class who were more enthusiastic than usual although technology let me down which was a bit of a pain. Thibault helped me with my CV (much to his amusement, seems you can't just write I like food in a CV) and gave me some great advice, even if it did take 5 teachers to pick one word. Thibault also invited me to Clermont, I was pleased because more often than not I can't shake the feeling that I'm annoying him.
I was quite late for the prison as sorting out my CV took longer than expected. Class was fine and funny. Isn't it weird that the only place I experience 'banter' is in the prison? Found out that the best pupil might have been released by next week. I was onexplicably sad. Let's see what the class is like without him. Was meant to go swimming but needed to go to the post office, so bought Boursin and bread as a treat. Got chatting to the woman in the bakery which was great. Seems small talk about the weather isn't just limited to England.
Today also saw the imaginatively named 'Jazz en Velay' at Comptoir du Pic in the evening. I met Hati and Dom there and watched a couple of the sets, but seeing as most of the players weren't great (never was a fan of drum solos) we decided to relocate upstairs and spent the evening perched at the bar like locals. Shadi and Rebekah came along briefly so it was nice to work on Anglo-American relations with Shadi (pictured). Enjoyed a bit of debating with Dom too. The walk home was the most dangerous experience of my life (ok, I probably exaggerate!) What happens when it rains and then decides to be -8 degrees? Add in a few cobble stones and you've got a few near death experiences because of the ice on the walk home. Sliding around was fun though.
