Rosemary (pictured in the main photo) grows like a weed here, all year round. When I am in New York and cooking a recipe that uses rosemary, I always forget that I have to buy it.

Extra #1 is of a California live oak — the most common tree around, next to redwoods. And extra #2 shows the first red camellia ever to bloom on this bush, planted five years ago. (The pink camellias, like the rosemary, are unstoppable and profuse.) I was thrilled to see it!
