Half a pair ....

A windy day with the odd blustery shower.
Kev and Gareth busy putting up a net fence across the turnip field as the ewes will be going onto them soon. The idea is to fence off a section at a time to limit the amount they get to eat then when that section is grazed bare they get a fresh break.
Nipped down to the village soup lunch , but only had time for 2 helpings as I had to meet Jamie the drainage contractor to show him some fields we need sorted.
Back up the road to find a pure limousin cow busy calving. She popped out a limousin bull calf. The only problem is she had mastitis during the summer and now has absolutely no working teats. Bugger. Went away to make up and bed a pen to mover them into and search through the deep freeze for some frozen colostrum to feed it. By the time I went back round she had had a second calf-a wee heifer. Double bugger. So now have 2 calves, a cow with no milk and if they do live I won’t be able to keep the heifer calf to breed from as it is a twin to a bull calf so will be a Jenny ( freemartin). On the up side I did manage to scrounge another 4 litres of colostrum from my very good next door dairy farm neighbour. Ho hum.
