Turning point
As the UK leaves the EU tonight I’ll feel sadness that my country is going to suffer over the coming years, which will fall hardest on the generations of our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There won’t be much immediate change but I expect a steady and deep decline as our economy suffers, which will hit the poor harder than others. There will be anger, probably directed at outsiders. I hope to be totally wrong about this.
I am also angry, not just at the fools who called and then bungled the referendum, but at politicians, journalists and others in power over the last 48 years who did little to promote genuine understanding of the EU but were happy to misdescribe and malign.
