Jack in a bottle

Long-tailed tits are almost 6 ins (15 cms) in length from beak to tail-tip, but more than half of that is made up by the tail! Apart from being one of the most attractive members of the tit family they also enjoy a wide range of unusual vernacular names. These include bum barrel, bush oven, feather poke, hedge jug, long pod, poke bag, pudding bag, and - my favourite - jack in a bottle!
