Buses and Boats in Bristol
We got the bus down to Harbourside in the centre of Bristol this morning which, with a seat of her own, Eda seemed to really enjoy.
When we got there we decided to take the harbour ferry across to the Great Western Dockyard, where Brunel’s SS Great Britain is found, to walk back along the quay to the M Shed. A fun museum to visit but our purpose at this time of year is to see the ‘Wildlife Photographer of the Year’ exhibition. As always the photographs were amazing, though in some cases disturbing. The overall winner was excellent but not something I would want to buy a postcard of!
Just around the corner but still on the quay is a cabin complex of shops and eateries so we went to Salt and Malt for lunch. A fish restaurant recommended for excellence and gluten free food. The waitress pointed out that even the vinegar was gluten free (free of malt extract.)
Many people, myself included, say it’s much easier these days as there is so much available when you are eating out but in reality it is much trickier. Before Christmas we visited a fish restaurant which listed all it’s gluten free products, excellent we thought but when we went again last week I read a disclaimer on the menu saying dispute providing gluten free products they didn’t run a gluten free kitchen. In other words the gluten free products, including chips would be contaminated by non gluten free foods cooked in the same fryers! A friend whose son is coeliac said chips were dodgy and indeed when returning from Scotland recently Eda had chips at a services that gave her a tummy ache. We are learning who to trust and who not but today we all had a lovely lunch.
Back on the bus and we are having a chilled Saturday afternoon and some are having a snooze!
