The Sponge of Victoria

I wonder why it's called a Victoria Sponge?  Could just swell be a Rose Sponge I think.  

We had a lovely surprise today when Chantler63 contacted us to see if a visit was in order.  She, John and Pepper Dog had been sight singing at Patshull Park for the weekend and we are sort of on their way home.  I decided that in honour of the occasion and a big birthday coming up in the Chantler household next week, I should attempt to become a Domestic Goddess and produce a cake.  It turned out rather well in fact and there's not too much left now.  We also took advantage of the time together to co-ordinate diaries so we could get together at some point with BlackTulip to plan future activities...
